SevenOaks Mall in Abbotsford, BC commissioned PECO to complete a large mural using plastic waste collected from their guests. PECO set up a collection point which doubled as an information booth about this and other Morguard sustainable initiatives.

The materials that were used is a combination of both industrial and residential plastic that was deemed landfill such as used plastic bags and paper towel overwrap.

The final artwork was unveiled in September 2023 and captures the City of Abbotsford with its abundance of farmland, its famous airshow, and of course, all the surrounding mountains and nature.

The mural also pays homage to those who lost so much during one of Canada's largest flooding disasters started by the Nooksack River’s breach in 2021.

Collection

The collaborative aspect is where the magic lies. Guests of the mall partially contributed their own soft plastic waste, all of which has been included in this mural.

In order to achieve this, PECO created a unique, multi-purpose kiosk design that functions as a plastic collection and info booth in one.

Each panel explains a different aspect of the project from the mall’s sustainability strategy, the concepts around the plastics crisis to how people can get involved and what plastics they can contribute to the final artwork. While closed, the kiosk acts as a collection center.
